Pick Wildlife Management Area
To access Pick Wildlife Management Area, from Minnesota Lake travel 3.5 miles north on CSAH 14 then .5 miles West on Highway 30.
In 2010, Minnesota Pheasants, Inc. – Blue Earth County Chapter purchased approximately 22 acres, known as the “Latourelle” tract, adjacent to the existing Pick WMA in Danville Township. In addition, five acres was purchased by Minnesota Pheasants, Inc. to allow access to the unit from the north off of township road 159.
The new addition consist of approximately 21 acres of upland nesting habitat as well as a new access path into the WMA from the north side. The cost of the acquisition was $46,500. The red area in the map represents the new addition.
In 2011 the Latourelle tract was transferred to the Minnesota DNR under the RIM match process. Restoration work on the addition has been completed. Including the 2010 addition, Pick WMA offers approximately 200 acres of varied habitat.
The new parcel can be accessed from the main body of the WMA or from the north side of the WMA off of County Road 159.
In 2020, Minnesota Pheasants, Inc. applied for and was awarded an Enhanced Public Land restoration grant to perform volunteer tree removal on approximately 800-acres on several Minnesota DNR Wildlife Management Areas & U.S. Fish & Wildlife Waterfowl Production Units in Blue Earth County. Pickl WMA was included in this grant and received approximately 201.7 acres of tree removal on the original parcel which had become very heavily wooded by volunteer trees and woodie growth. The unit will receive on-going maintenance.
