Shelby Waterfowl Production Area
Located approximately three miles south and one mile east of Amboy, MN at coordinates 43.855243, -94.138658, this 160-acre unit offers mature upland habitat and wetland cover.
Minnesota Pheasants, Inc. – Blue Earth County Chapter provided funds utilized for a block grant that provided restoration & tree removal on this unit along with a number of other units in the county. Extensive tree removal was done to enhance upland nesting cover.
In 2020, Minnesota Pheasants, Inc. applied for and was awarded an Enhanced Public Land restoration grant to perform volunteer tree removal on approximately 800-acres on several Minnesota DNR Wildlife Management Areas & U.S. Fish & Wildlife Waterfowl Production Units in Blue Earth County. Shelby WPA was included in this grant and received approximately 120 acres of tree removal. Volunteer trees had again aggressively infested the unit. Additional upland habitat restoration is planned for the unit in the near future.
