Born Wildlife Management Area
The Born Wildlife Management Area is located 6 miles east of Eagle Lake on Highway 14 and 1/2 mile south on County Road 37.
In 1996, Minnesota Pheasants, Inc. – Blue Earth County Chapter purchased 21 acres known as the “Priem” tract for $27,000.
In 1999, Minnesota Pheasants, Inc. – Blue Earth County Chapter purchased an additional 16 acres known as the “Pemble” tract for $26,566. These two parcels were added to the Born WMA. The area now contains approximately 200 acres. Funds used to purchase these parcels came from Minnesota Pheasants, Inc. – Blue Earth County Chapter, Smiths Mill – Janesville Sportsman’s Club as well as MN Department of Natural Resources RIM match dollars.
In 2020, Minnesota Pheasants, Inc. applied for and was awarded an Enhanced Public Land restoration grant to perform volunteer tree removal on approximately 800-acres on several Minnesota DNR Wildlife Management Areas & U.S. Fish & Wildlife Waterfowl Production Units in Blue Earth County. The Born WMA was included in this grant and received extensive tree removal. The unit will receive on-going maintenance.
