To locate this WPA, take Highway 22 South from Mankato. Turn East on County Highway 10 in Beauford for one mile, then turn South on the first township road. The property is 1 1/2 miles South on the East side of the road. The WPA is approximately 587 acres.
In 2000, the Minnesota Pheasants, Inc. – Blue Earth County Chapter purchased the 102 acre “Ward” tract in Beauford Township. Total cost for this acquisition – $43,500; was shared by Minnesota Pheasants, Inc. – Blue Earth County Chapter ($36,500), the Key City Conservation Club ($3,000), Minnesota Deer Hunters Association – Bend of the River Chapter – ($2,000) and the Bow Benders of Nicollet MN.
In 2003, we finalized the transfer of the Ward parcel to the US Fish & Wildlife Service. This addition brings the total ground available in the Cobb River WPA to approximately 587 acres.
The Blue Earth County Chapter also purchased material and built the parking lot on the Stratmann parcel as well as the parking area on the West side of the WPA.
